Gizmo Goes Purple

Gizmo used to be one of those study apps that showed up everywhere on our FYP. Lately, we’ve been seeing them less, so we took a closer look at what they’re doing now.

First thing we noticed: logo change.

They swapped the old bright yellow star logo for a purple dragon, but the business still seems to be holding up, still with a strong download volume and around $200K MRR.

On the content side, the network is still active, just much smaller than it used to be. We counted 15 accounts that posted at least once in the last week.

Their last wave of fresh accounts seems to have launched back in December, and in the last 30 days the network pulled 1.4M views.

They are moving at a much lower volume than before but we did spot a few formats that are still working reasonably well for them.

The first one was faceless and did 460.3K views by showing biology notes and adding in a cortisol/stress visual.

The gizmo app quickly appears on a computer screen.

One face-to-camera study advice did 222k views with the hook “HOW I GOT ADDICTED TO STUDYING”.

She talks about how she went from being a complete mess to having her life together academically.

Another talking one with the hook “things I don’t do as a 3.9 study girl” did 101k views from the same creator @studyingwithliz.

Although they are not all over the feed like they used to be, they are keeping moderate traction still mixing UGC faces, study value content, and light product demos.

We’ll keep an eye on them for the rebrand.
