TLDL Reaches 105M Views

TLDL is bringing in $90K a month and getting around 50K downloads every month.

The app already has over 50K users and has now hit 105 million views.

Views began to spike last month, with one video hitting 18.6 million views.

A quick 7-second video plays up and pokes fun at study stress, with the hook: “POV: when you’re too tired to study but you can’t sleep ’cause you need to study but you’re too tired to study.”

The video got 3,668 relatable comments, and the creator replied, saying the app saved them.

Other formats stood out too, this time a headshot video, which hit 11 million views.

The video opens with the hook: “POV: you have an exam TOMORROW and JUST found this now 💀”, which grabs attention right away. It’s another example of a hook that taps into panic and pressure. After that, the creator walks viewers through how to use the app.

It’s not just the creators finding what works, the official @tldlnotesapp account has its own standout content style too.

The post sparked 7.5 million views, 1,511 comments, 430.3K likes, and 49.6K bookmarks.

The standout format is a quick on-campus interview consisting of just two main questions:

  • “What’s your GPA?”
  • “What do you study with?”

The video follows a simple, effective pattern: students with low GPAs use other apps, while high-GPA students use TLDL, and the pattern repeats.

The comments section blew up with people sharing their GPAs and the apps they use.

Even with some standout formats, most videos stick to the same structure, a headshot of someone studying, then a screen showing the app in use. The main thing that changes from video to video is the hook.

The post got 4.4 million views, 843 comments, 155.6K likes, and 76.5K bookmarks.

A few hook examples:

  • POV: why EVERYONE deleted ChatGPT
  • POV: you found out why everyone deleted chat gpt
  • POV: your teacher said to use this for an A in the Syllabu
  • POV: you find out why EVERYONE is deleting ChatGPT

In addition to the main creators, TLDL has a few study pages, like @study.lyfe that use such similar formats, they could easily be run by the same person.

These pages follow a faceless format like the main creators, simple, but it work.

The post got 1 million views, 524 comments, 26.3K likes, and 5,284 bookmarks.

Somme more hooks:

  • I wish I get these grades without studying
  • POV: you got all A+ grades without studying
  • You definitely cheated to get these grades!!

The app’s strong performance proves that sometimes, a good hook is all you need.
