The AI Note App Battle

In the AI note-taking space, Flownote AI has started to feel some strong competition from Summary AI, a more recent app which has rapidly gained momentum.

Summary AI, released six months after Flownote, currently leads with around 300,000 downloads and $700,000 in revenue.

Flownote stays in the game with 20,000 downloads and roughly $100,000 in revenue.

Even with those numbers, Flownote AI has actually pulled in more views, 21 million, compared to Summary AI’s 14.1 million.

@thestudygirlyy is playing a big part in driving up views for Flownote.

Despite being the newest account, her videos are pulling in the most engagement, and one of them has the most views overall.

It’s a straightforward, headshot-style video where the creator talks through how she uses the app on her iPad. There are no flashy edits or hooks, just a clear explanation.

What really grabs people, though, is the “what I do every lecture to keep my 4.0!!” It instantly catches attention and encourages viewers to comment.

While Summary doesn’t have as many views overall, one video style stands out.

Creator @wfhgabriela has hit 10.4 million views with this format. These videos show AI being used in interview-style clips or staged scenes where it looks like someone is secretly recording a meeting.

Her hooks are doing particularly well and sparking a lot of conversation in the comments:

Some of her hooks:

  • “POV: Your boss forgot they approved your time off…”
  • “POV: You’re getting accused of saying it. A Slack detective story. 🕵🏼‍♀️ (no hate reasons)”
  • “POV: Your coworker sets you up in a meeting”
  • “POV: Your boss tries to accuse you of doing something you weren’t assigned for”

Unlike Summary AI,  Flownote AI is made for both students and working professionals.

Their videos follow a headshot style, beginning with the creator making a surprised face and sharing a quick hook. After that, they show how the app works in a class or meeting, then end with another hook to promote it.

Some of the hooks they’ve been repeating:

  • “BRUH 3 YEARS OF COLLEGE AND I ONLY JUST FOUND THIS?? 💀💀💀2
  • “umm my coworker just showed me how she doesn’t pay attention in any meetings”
  • “REMOTE WORK JUST GOT SO EASY 😭😭😭”
  • “ummmm what did I just find as a SENIOR??!!”
  • “WDYM EVERYONE’S BEEN USING THIS HACK IN MEETINGS AND I JUST FOUND OUT??”

Another format that performed well is this short, 6-second video featuring a headshot and a quick study tip as the hook.

Even though it’s a simple format, it still gets people talking in the comments.

Flownote has been more experimental in terms of formats than Summary, but Summary’s main format performs much better.
