Four Calorie Trackers, One Playbook

In the calorie‑tracking category on TikTok, there’s already a “default format” that every app follows.

The execution varies a bit from app to app, but the core stays the same.

Content is all about showing you how many calories are in the food right in front of you.

Proof:

  • Kalo uses slideshows of meals with calorie counts.
  • Microgram uses slideshows of supermarket products with calorie counts.
  • CalScan compares foods that have the same number of calories.

And now there’s one more to add to this playbook.

Just like CalScan, Counter AI also posts comparisons of foods with identical calorie counts.

The problem is that when every app uses the same calorie‑reveal structure, none of them stand out. And smaller apps like Counter AI become even more invisible.

Counter AI tried to stand out by having creators defend that counting calories “isn’t enough” to lose weight. You still need to hit the gym.

“She doesn’t know it yet, but in 5 min she’s going to pass out at the gym because 1,200 cal wasn’t enough”->1.7M views

Or that they “don’t have any calories left for the day.”

“When you have no calories left so you pull out this move”-> 1.5M views (boosted)
