Familiar UI Prints Attention

Originally branded as Duolingo for Money, the 143-day-old app Milo has been running about nine UGC accounts.

Only one is really working.

She has three viral videos out of around 30, adding up to almost 1M views. They all rely on the same hook.

  • “Only people in their 20s will understand this one… keeping your budget on your home screen”

The videos use their cute personal finance BFF icon and the home screen widget. The demo is simple and only shows the remaining budget on the home screen.

On the branded page, they first paired it next to the Duolingo streak widget. This was a smart move because it uses something familiar without competing with their own widget.

On this UGC page, they could push this winning hook way more. They only tested it a few times. When a hook and format work, they should be repeated as aggressively as possible.
