Wait, what? This little trick just hit 1.8M views…
Wait, it actually did more:
3.7 million views, from the 8 accounts we found.

And many, many more comments saying “it works.”

And it works. I just bought 7 watches.
Just kidding. Fun ol’ trick: put the price up 900%, give a 90% discount. You say it’s a scam here (it is), but it happens everywhere with real-life retailers, marking prices up and down.
Beyond this dirty ecom scheme, it would also work for VC-backed companies that are trying to give extreme discounts or free months/year to get up metrics and subscribers to take over market shares. Not pointing any fingers, but you know who I’m talking about.
I’m using Perplexity right now because someone leaked a Perplexity 1-year voucher code. I got addicted. Maybe I’ll keep paying.
This was not on purpose, but it’s probably an even better marketing scheme if it is on purpose. Uh-oh. You say sketchy marketing, or you could say mind-bending user acquisition trick.
