The Duolingo app for Christians

Imagine launching your app and getting:

  • In 7 days post-launch, 20,000 downloads
  • In 3 days post-launch, #10 in Reference
  • In 30 days, 4 million views

This new AI Pet BFF app’s TikTok/Reel strategy is one to be examined and it’s in one of our favorites niches.

You’ve seen us talk about Emy BFF and Finch but have you heard about Shepard? This app was on released on May 13th and it’s heavily inspired by the new wave of successful mental health AI pet apps.

But…. make it Bible:

They are now running and scaling two accounts:

TikTok => tt@tryshepherd – 1,034,180 views

IG Reels => ig@bytheshepherd – 3,835,900 views

They’re using the same format but with different videos on Tiktok and Reels.

At first it looks like plain old UGC, but if you look closer you’ll see that all of the videos are with clips taken from other creators.

The first part of the video features a UGC creator and text hook, then it moves straight into in-phone app demo:

(you’ll never guess who’s in their most viral video yet)

Remember her?

She’s the viral creator behind the success of (at least) 3 apps…

One of which is a Bible niche giant – Bible Chat (2.2M downloads & $350K last month)

This video did 647K views, 111K likes, 1.3K comments, 28K saves, and 10K shares

Download –> clip –> edit

They’ve used this creator more than once, but do the same with other UGC:

Would Jesus approve? Not sure

Is it genius? Absolutely

The same strategy is used for Instagram and look at this:

All 3 of their top-performing hooks use the same hack:

#1 – My best friend just told me they made a DUOLINGO for BIBLE READING???

#2 – okay but imagine they made a DUOLINGO for BIBLE READING???

#3 – Now that the DUOLINGO owl is CANCELLED… ????????
