You’ve heard of different family businesses, from your mom & pop pizza shop to the nepo babies of Hollywood. But what about in the app world?
We’ve uncovered a new type of family business, and it’s being powered by one TikTok account.
Not to mention, this app is making $20K a month. But how?

The concept is super simple- it’s a budgeting app.
Budget Bestie took a popular concept from YouTube/TikTok called ‘cash stuffing’.
Cash stuffing is when people place money into differently labeled envelopes, like entertainment, groceries, rent, etc. While recording yourself doing this is new, using envelopes to budget has been around for a long time.
They took this viral trend and turned it into an app.

The account (tt@budgetbestie.app) started in July 2023 and has been making selfie videos for a while.
One year later, in mid-2024, they started going viral with this single carousel format (except for 1 video):

It’s a killer one. It’s also pretty much “faceless”.

Some of their best hooks:
“My fave money habits as a financially literate girlie”
“My payday routine that keeps me from spiraling… i do this every payday to stay in control”
“Checking in: what i have left to spend over the weekend before payday hits”
And those go straight to app tutorials. Doing massive views.

It’s so simple, it’s obvious.
In those finance niches, the goal is to build “influencer” accounts within a niche. These accounts will then drip down into generating high-view accounts that can pump a high volume of content.
Sasha, the co-founder & marketer of this brother/sister app, was already a finance creator on her main account:

Where she also sells her “cash stuffers envelopes” and “savings binders”:

And she must make some good money off of it.
Her main account has 500 videos, 43.9M views, and a 3.6% 25x breakout rate.
It’s really cool that she was able to create two indie businesses out of two TikTok accounts.
(Actually 3, she also has an account selling wildflowers and twigs🙂

At the end of the day, everyone has to handle money. With the looming recession, people are only going to want to become even better at handling it.
Is a budgeting app in your future?
